The Egg, the Mist, and the Nudge
"The world is changing," and this seminar is geared toward those who wonder how it is changing and what it means for the church, for their children and grandchildren, and the experience of faith in our community. Timothy Gillespie, M.Div, and doctoral student in emerging culture, will begin a conversation on the future of the church and the challenges and opportunities a shift in worldview poses for our communities and families. This seminar will deal with emerging culture, concepts of post-modernism, the role of social media in changing the way we think and communicate the gospel, how the church can deal with different communities within its structure, and worship as a cultural/theological expression.
Growing Olderly Gracefully
There is no need to invent new words to say something original, just switch the same ones in different patterns. In this seminar on aging (presented by Wil Alexander), we will switch words like "elderly" to "olderly," in a pattern to include those interested ones barely out of their teens, and those moving gradually away from their "three score and ten." We will switch patterns of finding "zits" to finding wrinkles, and feeling twinges. We will feel our way gingerly and emotionally between raging and rejoicing. We will discover the creative innerweave of nature and nurture in maturing spirituality. And, we will celebrate the experience of epiphany and epitome as we meet together under the Holy Spirit
Archaeology, Adventists, and the Ammonites
Lawrence T. Geraty, president emeritus of LSU, and former president of ASOR (the society of American archaeologists who work in the Middle East), presents an introduction to archaeology and how it has increased our understanding of the context of the biblical story. Included will be: how archaeology works, how it can facilitate Bible study, a look at the "stage" on which the biblical drama took place, how Adventists got involved in archaeology, the story of Siegfried Horn (Mr. Archaeology in the SDA Church), how Adventists have come to dominate the field of biblical archaeology, together with some of their key findings.
In The Fullness of Time
Some 400+ years transpired between the end of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New. During that time political, social, and religious developments prepared the world for the coming of the Messiah, the culmination of which Paul called "the fullness of time." Join scholar in residence Bernard Taylor and enter into these all-too-often unknown times. It is a fascinating experience.
Prayers That Avail Much
This seminar is about changing your life through the power of prayer: (John 14:12, "Greater things than these will he do . . ."). Explore the reality of this truth as Karen and Lynn Martell focus with you on prayer as an experience of living in the very presence of God that we do not avail ourselves of often enough. When the heart is on fire with God Himself, the prayer itself is on fire. Gain new insights into topics such as:Praying with Power, Praying for Forgiveness, Parnering with God in Intercession, and Journaling. This seminar could change your life.
