Donauvin Krause

Donauvin Krause is not a refugee from the ministry. Loma Linda University Church has a bona fide business administrator with credentials and experience appropriate for his position in our church, where the operation reaches more than $2.4 million each year, and the annual offerings for myriad projects total more than $10.7 million.

Dr. Krause holds a bachelor of business administration degree, a master’s degree in educational administration, and a doctoral degree in leadership and administration from Loma Linda University.

For the multiple tasks Dr. Krause undertakes at the University Church he can draw on his varied experience. He has worked in residential land development and real estate.  He has been the president of a travel agency. As a church employee, he served in the K-12 system as a teacher, academy treasurer, academy principal, and associate superintendent. In the Adventist college-university system, his positions have included factory cost accountant, assistant college business manager, professor, department chair, division dean, and vice-president for academic administration.

Dr. Krause supervises all the financial aspects of the church: receipting contributions, developing a budget, and overseeing the proper distribution and utilization of funds. Donors bring an amazing array of non-cash gifts—cars, trucks, motor homes, boats (ski boat, motor boat, catamaran sailboat), even an airplane designated “for church use”--to Dr. Krause.

Except for the airplane, which wasn’t accepted because the church staff lacks a licensed airplane pilot—he evaluates the items and oversees their sale in his role as a good business man working on behalf of the church.

Other tasks performed by Dr. Krause--investing and monitoring University Church funds—must be done with dispatch, because he also exercises general supervision over the financial operation of two entities operated by the church: Adventist Community Team Services (ACTS) and Loma Linda Children’s Center (LLCC).  He is also a member of the Loma Linda Academy Board and the Loma Linda Academy Finance Committee.  Since assuming his position in 2000, Dr. Krause has monitored the funds ($13 million) raised for church renovation; he cheerily estimates that church members will be raising $7 million to provide a new chapel, and that “Phase XYZ” will follow, when the Sabbath School wing will be twice as high and twice as wide.

Aligned with his administrative assignment, Dr. Krause meets with committees concerned with business issues: the building committee, opportunity committee, finance committee, tuition aid committee. In his management capacity, Dr. Krause oversees the operation and scheduling of the physical plant processes, supervises five custodial and maintenance employees and their related responsibilities, and serves as personnel manager for the support staff: an accountant, four secretaries, and four music employees.

Yes, he’s the computer system coordinator too. And in his spare time he enjoys sports, traveling with his wife, and interacting with his three children and eight grandchildren.
